On Saturday 22nd June 2019 we hosted our second charity football tournament at Sporting Khalsa FC in aid of Birmingham Children’s Hospital. After last year’s washout the weather was on our side with clear blue skies and plenty of sun providing the perfect conditions for football.
The tournament consisted of 8 teams which were split into 2 groups of 4. The winners of each group played the runner up of the opposite group in a semi-final for a place in the final.
The teams that competed in this year’s tournament were:
- Finance 4 Business (including former professional footballer Darren Byfield)
- Prosperity Wealth Ltd
- Hampshire Trust Bank
- Wright Hassell
- Paul Atkinson’s 11
- Codsall FC
- Barclays
- Raj Bains
After a hard-fought group phase, the final 4 teams that moved onto the semi-finals were Finance 4 Business who would play Hampshire Trust Bank and Wright Hassell who would play Barclays. Both semi-finals were closely matched, ending 1-1 between Finance 4 Business and Hampshire Trust Bank and 2-2 between Wright Hassell and Barclays, meaning a penalty shootout would be the deciding factor. The glory went to Hampshire Trust Bank and Wright Hassell who advanced on penalties to contest the final. The final was another close encounter ending in a six goal thriller to conclude a 3-3 draw. This meant for the third time the tournament would see a penalty shootout. There was some great spot kicks converted but unfortunately, it was Hampshire Trust Bank who fell short meaning Wright Hassell got their hands on the shield to win the Finance 4 Business Charity Football Tournament.
Despite the competitive fun on the pitch, the day was all about supporting Birmingham Children’s Hospital. We hosted a raffle prize draw after the tournament where there were signed footballs by Darren Byfield and Stiliyan Petrov, champagne, red and white wine and signed football memorabilia available to win. All the money was donated to Birmingham Children’s Hospital along with the money made from refreshments and food.
After a hugely successful day we’d just like to thank everyone that attended and helped raise money for this fantastic charity. We are looking forward to doing it all over again next year and we hope you can join us.
